History of St. Patrick's Day

History of St. Patrick's Day

Here’s the thing about St. Patricks Day

*

St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland.

*

He was actually born in Britain, but was kidnaped by Irish raiders at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland.

*

While in Ireland, he worked a lonely life as a shepherd.

*

During this time, St. Patrick became very religious, and believed God told him to leave Ireland.

*

He walked 200 miles and returned to Britain to continue his religious studies.

*

After 15 years of study, he was sent back to Ireland to convert the Irish to Christianity.

*

Instead of eradicating Irish beliefs altogether, he incorporated the similarities and came up with the Celtic Cross.

*

He used the 3 leaves of the shamrock to explain the holy trinity.

*

Patrick died on March 17th, 461. In order to show off their Irish Christian pride, people started wearing green on this day every year.
